How it works
- A lunar birthday moves every year: lunar 3/15 is April 21, 2027, then April 9, 2028.
- Chuseok 2026: September 25, 2026. Seollal 2027: February 7, 2027.
- Leap month birthdays are usually kept on the regular month.
- Uses Korean lunar data, which can differ by a day from the Chinese calendar.
Seollal and Chuseok dates, 2026 to 2030
| Year | Seollal (lunar 1/1) | Chuseok (lunar 8/15) |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Tuesday, February 17, 2026 | Friday, September 25, 2026 |
| 2027 | Sunday, February 7, 2027 | Wednesday, September 15, 2027 |
| 2028 | Thursday, January 27, 2028 | Tuesday, October 3, 2028 |
| 2029 | Tuesday, February 13, 2029 | Saturday, September 22, 2029 |
| 2030 | Sunday, February 3, 2030 | Thursday, September 12, 2030 |
Seollal is Lunar New Year, Chuseok is the autumn harvest holiday. Each is usually a 3-day holiday: the day before, the day and the day after.
How to find your lunar birthday
Some Koreans keep their birthday on the lunar calendar (음력 생일). It stays on the same lunar month and day, so the solar date moves every year. Choose Lunar to solar, enter the lunar birth date, and the converter lists the solar dates for this year and the next few years.
For example, lunar 3/15 falls on April 21, 2027, April 9, 2028, April 28, 2029.
What is a leap month?
Twelve lunar months are about 11 days shorter than a solar year, so a leap month (윤달) is added about every 2 to 3 years. 2025 had a leap 6th month, and 2028 has a leap 5th month. If you were born in a leap month, your birthday is usually kept on the same day of the regular month. If that month has only 29 days in a year, a 30th-day birthday is counted on the 29th.
Korean and Chinese lunar calendars can differ by a day
A lunar month starts on the day of the new moon, and that day depends on the time zone used. Korea calculates it in Korea Standard Time, so some months, leap months and even Seollal can fall a day apart from the Chinese calendar. This converter uses the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute data.
Zodiac animal and sexagenary name
The 60-year cycle (간지) pairs 10 heavenly stems with 12 earthly branches. Your zodiac animal (띠) follows the lunar year, so if you were born before Seollal, it is the animal of the year before.
